About the Blog
While traveling I want a way to record my journey. I'll be journaling as I go but I want a way to keep my family updated and tie pictures in with the stories. So I'm creating this blog to do just that! I'll be blogging from my cell phone (my trusty Samsung Galaxy S4) and my laptop as time permits. Additionally, I won't constantly have internet access so posts may come in groups because I can still draft them on the go. But I'm excited for this wonderful opportunity to travel and study abroad in New Zealand
About the Author
I am an Animal Science student at Michigan State University with a passion for horses and dreams of becoming a veterinarian. Part of my degree requires an internship or study abroad in order to graduate. After my failed attempt to study abroad last summer (click here to see that blog!) I am actually going this summer!
About the Trip
Massey University offers this study abroad during their winter and it is tailored for students studying agriculture, agribusiness, environmental science, and wildlife management. The key components of this program, which is unlike any other in New Zealand, are a two week national expedition and a four week internship.
The adventure kicks off with the National Expedition where we will be introduced to New Zealand. We will hike a glacier that terminates in temperate rain forest, debate the pros and cons of being the largest dairy producer, and explore volcanoes and geothermal areas. Understanding will be gained about the intricate relationship between agricultural and environmental issues and how these shape the everyday lives of Kiwis and the country as a whole. After two weeks of traveling we will settle in Hawke's Bay for a month where each student will have an internship. I will be interning at Boutique Horsetreks!
